Reading Between the Lines

J:Sometimes people say one thing but mean something completely different.  Sometimes people say something and it means absolutely nothing.  I think this is the case with our mom.  Recently I was having a conversation with her and I was so confused by what she was saying that I decided to write down her responses to see if I could make any sense out of it.   This is how the conversation went:

Me: Mom, would you like to take a walk?

Mom:  Well, if we are going for the ham.

Me: I'm not sure about the ham, but I see that E just pulled in from work.  Let's go see if she had a busy day as a nurse.

Mom: We should go back in to the rest of the things.

Me: Mom, E is a very busy nurse working her main job as well as running her home health care company

Mom: I never heard anything about a company

Me: Mom, would you ever want to work for her company?

Mom:  Don't even talk about it.  I'm just waiting for Christmas.

Me:  Oddly enough, Christmas is six months from today.

Mom:  Are you kidding? What do you think I'm nuts?  I just want one egg.

So at the end of the conversation, I'm thinking maybe there's a connection between the ham and the egg. . . I have a call in to Dr. Seuss
